An impressive collection of impressionist paintings which makes a part of Normandy’s impressionist collections. You can visit the museum and the temporary exposition in about one hour and a half.

A couple of months ago I went to most of the headline museums in Paris, but this is the best art museum I have visited in France this year. The core collection is made up of a lot of sketches and a few fully worked up paintings by local impressionist artist Eugene Boudin. There is a whole wall of sketches from along the nearby coast, plus another of really charming cow pictures. Alongside this is a collection of more and less well known late 19th and early 20th century names (including Renoir and Pissaro), but I thought many of the highlights were by artists I didn't recognise. There is one fabulous example of pointilism plus two genuinely magnificent busts of a man and woman from Sudan.

Lovely art collection including Monet, Matisse, Pissarro. Air conditioned. Cafe was ok but you have to eat to enjoy the view! And today it was very hot sitting drinking coffee in the corner…!
