This is a great museum! This is a museum that I will brag about having visited for the rest of my life. The cornerstone of the museum is the largest preserved Roman settlement anywhere in the world outside of Italy. A raised metal catwalk is suspended over the streets and foundations of numerous houses, businesses and religious buildings of the original Roman settlement of Barcelona. Quite a tall section of wall is also preserved. The written plaques throughout the museum do a fantastic job of explaining what you are seeing and the exhibits here guide you through the history of the original settlement as it survived after the fall of the Roman empire and even flourished with the huge wine facility, a fish factory, and a growing religious hub that gradually became Catholic. The admission is only 5 euros! I spent 2 hours here and had to leave because we planned on going to mass at the Barcelona basilica - we could have easily stayed longer. The staff were friendly. Public restrooms on site.

Really enjoyed this museum. I went on Sunday afternoon and was pleased to find it is free on a Sunday after 3pm (I don't think it's especially expensive anyway but nice little surprise). You basically start the walkthrough by going down an elevator 15 metres or so and you're suddenly in Roman ruins that are ~2000 years old. It was very quiet when I went so easy to take my time reading every sign. Very interesting museum that gives you a deep understanding of the Roman history there and the transformations that happened afterwards.

The historical museum of Barcelona is definitely worth a visit when you are in Barcelona (especially if you are interested in history). With the Barcelona Card the entrance was free and there‘s was also no queue. The museum itself is very big and really interesting.
